Change Your Clients’ Sessions With the Change of Seasons

Use the change of the seasons, and seasonal activities, as an opportunity to change the training methods that you use with your clients.



In places where the weather turns, and stays, ugly for up to 5 months use the coming of spring as a reason to move some of your training sessions outdoors.  After a long, cold, hard and awful winter my clients are chomping at the bit to get outside when the weather starts to turn nice and the sun stays out longer. The sometimes depressing days of winter can really put a crimp in clients' motivation levels, so when the word is that a nice day is on the horizon I let my clients know that we will heading out for a session.

Nothing can bolster spirits and give a boost to motivation - for both client and trainer - like a great workout outside with the promise of more to come. Not only will clients enjoy being outside, but the monotony of the indoor, winter workouts becomes a distant memory with the re-introduction of effective drills that can only be done outside on a track or field.

As a personal trainer I look forward to running through the drills with my clients and know my clients enjoy, and benefit, from getting outside and opening up their stride.  My clients get a huge lift from knowing they are doing the same drills that I use with my high school and college teams and athletes. Using these speed and agility drills and taking clients outside will ensure that you are providing your clients with variety that can help keep them fresh, both mentally and physically.

You don't have to limit your outdoor workouts to speed and agility work, as any kind of workout can be done outside.  Take a few pairs of dumbbells and/or kettlebells outside, and mix in some calisthenics and running, and an ordinary workout can become extraordinary.  The change of scenery will work wonders for you and your clients.

So take advantage of the great weather and get your clients outside to workout.
