There was just too much going on yesterday for me to keep up with my daily semi-live updates of the convention - if you've been to Las Vegas you know what I mean - so here's a day after account of another fantastic session.NSCA's National Conference

A highlight of the NSCA's conference was Saturday morning's co-hosted session with Vern Gambetta and Jimmy Radcliffe.  These 2 legends in the business were at the top of their game as they dished on everything from the importance of developing a personal style, encouraging fitness professionals to be creative as they design training programs, the need to say "No," more often and preaching the value of having the "Growth Mindset."

I'm sounding like a broken record, but it's true; this Gambetta/Radcliffe session is just one of many examples of why personal trainers and strength coaches need to attend these conferences.  For as great as books, DVDs and professional journals are, there's no learning experience like an "in-person" learning experience, especially when the teachers are icons.

It's kind of like having the chance to see your favorite band in a small club rather than listening to their music on an iPod or seeing them in a 100,000-seat arena.  Being able to see men like Radcliffe and Gambetta up close and feel the energy they exude as they teach, and as the audience learns, is a special occasion and makes attending these conferences worth every penny.

Too much came out of this session to summarize in a single blog post - I'll buy a recording of this session if it's made available - as each time these two made a point it was worth writing down.  However, I will talk about the "Growth Mindset" espoused by Gambetta.

Quite simply the growth mindset is, "Keep changing whether you win or lose."  Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan are great examples of this philosophy of never resting on your laurels and never being satisfied with what you've accomplished.  This is great advice regardless of your profession or avocation.
