How to Develop An Elevator Pitch

An Elevator Pitch is a brief, to the point and informative explanation about what you do and/or about your personal training business. This isn't a sales pitch where you tell someone how much you charge or how great you are as a trainer.
An effective Elevator Pitch - no more than 200 words - will do more for you than any sales pitch ever could.
Your Elevator Pitch should include a hook that gets attention and a statement that is bold and that will arouse your potential client's curiosity. Hit them with something like, "I rarely use equipment during my sessions," "My clients never sit down and rarely lie down during sessions," or, "I train everyone like they are an athlete," and they'll want to hear more about what you do.
There needs to be passion and enthusiasm in your pitch. If you can't be excited about telling a prospect what you do you won't make much of an impression on them, and there's little chance they will hire you as their personal trainer if you don't display energy.
Don't denigrate the competition; acknowledge it so you can talk about your competitive advantage. Here are things you can mention.
- All staff members are National Strength and Conditioning Association Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists.
- Talk up your experience and the experience of the staff.
- Provide details about the benefits of training in a private environment.
- Highlight unique aspects that distinguish you and your gym
Here's my Elevator Pitch.
"I've been training people for 20 years and during that time I've conducted over 30,000 personal training sessions. The key to my success is that I treat everyone as if they are training for a sport, which gives my clients a variety of constructive goals to shoot for. I don't care how much a person weighs, how big their arms are or if they have "six-pack" abs. I don't use appearance as a measure of fitness or progress.
All we do at my gym is personal training. You'll get a great personal trainer in a private atmosphere. We're never crowded. At my place there's never more than 6 people working out at any time, and usually it's between 3-5 people.
I get my clients to perform. That's why clients who have been with me for 8 years or more dominate my schedule. Would you like to talk to any of my clients?
If you want to work hard, feel good and get better you'll enjoy working out with me."
Develop a unique Elevator Pitch and your business will benefit.
