The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) offers two great certifications and provides members and certified professionals with the finest on-going educational materials in the field.  In addition, the NSCA offers the Fly Solo Program that gives coaches and other fitness professionals an opportunity to be mentored by NSCA certified professionals.

This unique program was developed by legendary, hall of fame strength coach and the NSCA's Director of Coaching Performance Boyd Epley, with Jake Wurth serving as the Coordinator of Coaching Performance for the NSCA.  Candidates must complete the NSCA's on line Fly Solo Manual before attending a local, hands-on Fly Solo Camp that are conducted by NSCA mentors.

The goal of the Fly Solo Program is to help sport coaches, strength coaches and personal trainers gain a better understanding of the principles of strength and conditioning and is a great first step in becoming an NSCA certified professional.  The 8-hour Fly-Solo Camps are a "learn-by-doing" experience as coaches and other fitness professionals are put through the paces by Fly Solo Mentors and are taught how to perform all of the exercises and drills that make up the core of the Fly Solo program.

The Fly Solo Program is an opportunity for personal trainers to learn how to incorporate methods of training that will help to improve their clients' performance.  The great thing about the Fly Solo Program - and the NSCA philosophy in general - is that the methods of improving athletic performance are introduced in the context of training clients from a diverse background.

The Fly Solo Program is a great introduction to the methods of the NSCA and serves as a great way to prepare for their Certified Personal Trainer and/or Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist certifications.  As part of the Fly Solo Program, you will learn about the NSCA's Testing Index that consists of four performance tests used to measure progress.  While the index is geared to athletes, it can be used to measure the progress of all of your clients.

Using performance-based tests to measure progress is a great incentive for clients and will help retain clients. The Fly Solo Program is a great tool that all fitness professionals should take advantage of.
