Personal Trainers Need to Take Time Off, Too

I believe that taking time off from work, workouts and the gym can be just as important as the time spent working and exercising, sometimes even more so.  As the saying goes, “All work and no play make Jack a dull boy,” and the holiday season offers us all a great opportunity to take a break from our normal routines.

I am going to be practicing what I preach for the next few weeks and will be taking off from my regular writing and posting duties here on PersonalTrainerCoach.com and easing off a bit over at my other site, HealthAndFitnessAdvice.com, as well.  Several of my clients will be taking time off from now until after New Year’s Day, so I will be on a break from my regular training schedule.  All in all the end of the year is a great time for me to take my foot off the gas for a little while and recharge my batteries.

A great friend and colleague of mine compared what we do as personal trainers to being a battery, in that we are constantly providing energy for others, and from time to time need to take time to recharge or else we’ll run out of juice.  After 20 plus years in the business and regularly training 30+ appointments per week on top fulfilling my regular business responsibilities I need regular breaks to keep going.  Add to the mix serving as the head strength coach at a high school and college, producing content for 2 web sites, finding the time (and energy) to workout and spending quality time with my family and I would be a disaster if I didn’t know how to take time off from the grind.

So for the next three weeks I will be reposting some content from the early days of PersonalTrainerCoach.com while my batteries get some much needed recharging.

It’s been just about a year since the site made its debut and I want to thank all of you for visiting PersonalTrainerCoach.com regularly over the past year, sending emails and making comments on the site.  I have some big plans for the site in 2010 and am excited for the new year.

I’d also like to wish all of you a Happy New Year, Merry Christmas and/or Happy Hanukkah. I hope all of you enjoy the holiday season and the great times that come from being with family and friends.
