This video contains elements of Complex Training, that I use in my own training, and that I use a great deal in my clients' sessions. The term "complex" connotes the stringing together of a series of compound movements into one multi-repetition set, or "training complex." The theory behind complex training is that by performing both strength and explosive exercises in this arrangement, both fast and slow twitch muscles are trained, stimulating the nervous system.
Complex training also increases the rate of force production, which should be the main focus of your training sessions. Strength training alone does not increase speed or power and research indicates that all members of the population - including senior citizens and the frail - benefit from training that stresses the nervous system. Complex training, and any form of training that is predicated upon activating the nervous system, improves force production, improves balance, stability and coordination, and is the best way to prepare the body for the rigors encountered in everyday life.
Life doesn't happen slowly, which is why it is important to include nervous system training in all of your exercise programs.
