I'm very excited to be heading down to Florida this weekend to attend legendary coach Vern Gambetta's GAIN apprentorship program.  It's almost six days of intense learning in a residential coaching school format that, for me, represents the highlight of my continuing education efforts. Starting next week I will be posting my entries from the various discussions and sessions that I experienced at GAIN 2010.

If you've been a visitor to the site, or have read my book, you know that I am a big believer in continuing education for all fitness professionals.  I have been to all kinds of educational experiences during my 20+ years in the field and look forward to the challenge - and reward - offered by GAIN.  The GAIN experience combines elements of apprenticeship and mentorship programs in an effort to meld theory with practice, which creates a great learning environment.

From what I know about GAIN it's intense and interactive.  After years of being talked down to by many so-called expert lecturers, I am looking forward to working with, learning from and talking to some of the finest professionals in the field.  Gambetta's books - The Gambetta Method and Athletic Development: The Art & Science of Functional Sports Conditioning - are must reads for every personal trainer and strength coach, especially those who work with athletes.  Actually, Gambetta prefers the title, "Athletic Development Coach," over "Strength and Conditioning Coach," and I have come to feel the same way. I refer to myself as an athletic development coach and on the fitness side have made the switch from personal trainer to fitness development coach.  But I digress...

So check back over the next several weeks to get some of the highlights of my GAIN experience.
