Here are just a few of the studies that appear in the August edition.
- Post-Match Recovery Strategies in Youth Soccer Players
- Effects of Caffeine During Anaerobic Exercise With College Football Players
- Influence of Strength and Power on Muscular Endurance
- Effect of Warm-up With Different Weighted Bats
The Supplement to August’s journal contains the NSCA’s position stand on androgen and human growth hormone use and an update of their position statement on youth resistance training. This supplement is an incredibly informative 79 pages, as the NSCA does its usual great job of providing plenty of research to support their positions.
The youth position paper includes the benefits of a properly designed youth resistance training program and states that resistance training,
- Is safe
- Increases strength and power, and improves cardio vascular conditioning
- Increases motor skill performance and may help sports performance
- Can help reduce injuries
- Can improve social well being
- Develops and promotes exercise habits
I am a big fan of the professional journals that are published by the NSCA and the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). For a few hundred dollars per year personal trainers and strength coaches gain access to thousands of pages of valuable information as well as an infinite amount of on-line, archived data.
This month the NSCA has announced that they will start publishing their Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research on a monthly basis due to the vast amount of research that is available.
